Excitement is high when missionaries say goodbye to their homeland. Stepping out on the other side they find a strange land, culture and language. The adventure wears off, but the day-to-day challenges keep them focused and fulfilled. Eventually the tired missionary returns, looking for a life more predictable and less demanding. The reality of having to make a living, fit into the home church and find satisfaction in the mundane duties of life begins to dawn, leaving some disoriented, and facing discouragement, and a boring life. Hopefully this seminar will inject new enthusiasm for where the former missionary has been led back to, inspiring them to plug back in. The experiences gained while serving on the foreign field need not just become a distant memory in a dusty photo album or an almost forgotten journal but can be a springboard for continued activity and service, finding a niche, an identity and a sense of purpose and belonging in building up the kingdom of God wherever He has landed them. We anticipate some discussions of how returned missionaries can put their experiences to good use without coming across with an air of superiority to their colleagues who have remained at their local posts year after year.
